Regina Yuhas, 75, passed away peacefully in her home in West Melbourne after a lengthy battle with Multiple Myeloma. She was born in Eureka, CA and spent her childhood and teenage years traveling the world with her mother and military step-father. She lived in such places as Newfoundland and Morocco.
Regina spent a significant part of her adult life in Salisbury, MD with family and raising her son. After earning her degree in elementary education from Salisbury State College, her life path brought her to Florida. In 1974 she moved to Apalachicola, FL where she began her teaching career. In 1978 Regina moved to Brevard county, teaching at Apollo Elementary in Titusville. One more move in 1985 would take her to the Melbourne area where she taught at University Park Elementary until she retired in 2009.
She had deep devotion to her family and friends, always there to give advice, support and care for her son until his passing in 2005. Her devotion extended to her church, St. Joseph Catholic Church in Palm Bay, where she was quite active. Regina had a great appreciation and love for nature and animals that was unsurpassed. Regina would surround herself and her home with her beloved dogs and native Florida plants. She was always eager to walk a nature trail or nearby beach.
Regina is survived by her nephew Mark Vollmer; nieces Donna Vollmer and Terry Blanc; brother in law Donald Vollmer; ex-husband Gordon Wood; several great nieces and nephews; several great great nieces and nephews and many friends. She is predeceased by her mother Wilma Smoot; father George Yuhas; step-father Emerson Smoot; son Scott Hill and sister Jennie Vollmer.
Regina will truly be missed.
A funeral mass is scheduled for February 17, 2017 at 12:30 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1422 Miller Street, Palm Bay. Inurnment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
