H. Jack Wells

H. Jack Wells passed away on February 24 in Wuesthoff Hospital after a short illness. Jack was born on February 1, 1922 in Buffalo, NY. After attending schools in the Buffalo area, Jack joined the Army in 1942. During WWII, Jack served in the Southwest Pacific and was awarded several combat medals. After the war, Jack transitioned to the Air, Force, retiring in 1962 at the rank of Major. He then went to work for the Eastern Test Range at Patrick AFB, FL. He retired from civil service in May 1078 as the Test Range Director of Communications.
Jack and his wife, Marge, came to Brevard County in 1962. They lived in Satellite Beach, Indian Harbour Beach, and Cocoa Beach. He was an avid football fan, but his real passion was duplicate bridge. If there was a game in Brevard County, Jack, a Grand Life Master, was sure to have participated. He was known for his serious demeanor and unique style of holding his cards well below table top.
In retirement, Jack, Marge, and their beloved basset hound, Claude, traveled the United States in their RV. Jack was a life long Mason in the Levant Lodge in Buffalo, NY and the Son's of the American Revolution.
Jack was predeceased by his wife, Marge, in 2006 and his son, Jack, Jr., in 2001. He is survived by his daughter, Jill Bowman, of Cocoa, FL, two brothers, Norm and Bob, seven grandchildren, one great grandson, and numerous nephews and nieces including Megan Lytle of Ohio.
A short service will be held at Our Savior Catholic Church in Cocoa Beach on Friday, March 5, at 5pm. His ashes will be placed with his wife of 63 years, Marge.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Jack's favorite Community Services Council, Inc., Meals on Wheels, 3600 West King Street, Cocoa, FL are suggested.
