Whanda Van Allen Pekar

October 02, 1919 - February 17, 2013

Palm Bay, FL

Mrs. Whanda V. Pekar, 93, affectionately known as "Paka" passed away on Sunday, February 17, 2013 at William Childs Hospice House in Palm Bay, FL.

She was born in Ravena, NY, the daughter of the late John and Ethel Van Allen. She graduated from Ravena High School. Mrs. Pekar took part in the World War II effort, and worked as a secretary in the Panama Canal Zone for the U.S. Navy. She retired after working many years for the state of South Carolina, as the warden's secretary at a maximum security detention center in Columbia, SC.

Surviving family members include her daughter, Mrs. Joni Levy; four grandchildren Michelle Allen, Ben Allen, Stephanie Levy, and Stephen Giles; two great grandchildren Mkayla and Brianna Allen, all from St. Simons Island, GA.

Also left behind is her companion Robert Dennis Aberns, of 865 Brisbane Street, NE, Palm Bay, whom she shared many years with.

Funeral Information

A memorial service will be held for Mrs. Pekar by her family in Georgia at a later date. No local service was held in the Palm Bay area.

Donations Information

Her family suggests that those who wish, may make contributions to Ascension Social Concerns, 1238 Aurora Road, Melbourne, FL 32935 in her honor.
