Bernard H. McLaughlin MD

Cocoa Beach

Bernard Hugh McLaughlin, MD, 85, of Cocoa Beach, FL died Monday, February 11, 2013.
He was born September 23, 1927 in Camp Hill, PA.

Prior to matriculating at Franklin and Marshall College, Lancaster, PA, he served as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division, US Army. He received his degree in biology and enrolled in the School of Medicine at Temple University, Philadelphia, PA. Upon receiving his medical degree, he completed his training in General Surgery at Charity Hospital, New Orleans, LA.

In 1960, he opened the first General Surgery practice in Cocoa Beach. He was a member of the medical staff at Wuesthoff Hospital in Rockledge and became a Founding Member of the Cape Canaveral Hospital Medical Staff when it opened in 1962. He served as Chief of Staff of Cape Canaveral Hospital in 1968. Dr. McLaughlin retired from active practice in 1992 but continued to assist his son Michael in surgery until 2004.

He is survived by his wife Charlotte and his six children; Patricia (Joseph) Cummings, Cathy (Kenneth) Champion, Bernard Jr. (Elizabeth), Charlotte, Michael (Donna) and Alicia (Jon) Loving. He was also blessed with seventeen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

The family wishes to extend it’s deepest thanks and appreciation to Debbie and Keith and the wonderful staff of La Casa Memory Care for their loving care of “Dr. Mac”.

Funeral Information

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Our Saviour’s Catholic Church in Cocoa Beach.

Donations Information

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Our Saviour’s Catholic School.
